Journal: Let's get this party started!

A few days ago, my grandma sent me a text about how cool it would be to document the process and experience of my first year in Austin, TX.  After considering the time commitment and processing if it was a goal I could actually keep, I decided to go for it! I mean, what is there to lose.

I have decided that I would like to focus on actionable or relatable takeaways others might be feeling or experiencing while moving to a new city. I don’t want to inundate you with updates about what I had for dinner or pictures of my dog (not saying you won’t see a few of posts like that, but I promise it won't be the main content). I hope that these journal entries will bring some inspiration (in any way that that may apply to your life) and comfort.

( I had to include a pic of my amazing grandparents who are always inspiring others to do great things! )

With this being Jan 1, I couldn't think of a better day to get this started! HERE IT GOES!

Before I get started on sappy or emotional things, I feel like I should introduce myself.

My name is Madison Tucker. I am originally from Houston, TX, I moved to Oklahoma to attend OU, I met my husband and we made lives for ourselves in OKC.

I just moved to Austin one month ago and now beginning my journey to find all things new. What does that mean? Well, I just moved into a new apartment, in a new city that I am not familiar with, attempting to find a new job and meet new people. So basically, I am embracing new! The best part of all this NEW is that I have the support of my husband, Luke,  and companionship of my fur baby, Ben. So although I have a lot of change coming down the line, I still have the love and support of my people.

I feel like there is so much to talk about and I don’t know where to start. On one hand, I could start from the beginning and write my entire life story down to catch you up to who I am and where I came from, but I feel like that might be a bit much. So, instead, I will just give you the important points that will catch you up quickly to a lot of things I will be referring to.

I started my own business 2 years ago. Optimal Life Space is a professional organizing business that helps home and small business owners declutter and optimize their space. Since I started OLS, it has been my life. I was constantly thinking of new ways to educate people and market the business, I was learning how to best organizing and communicate with clients, freaking out about all the things I did not know (like accounting and finances) and loving the experiences and connections that were formed.

Owning my own business was the best and hardest thing I have ever experienced. The highs were high and the lows were very low. If you have ever had a side hustle or full-time company I know you are probably smiling (or crying) agreeing with me on this.

I will talk more about the experience of wrapping up OLS later, but for now, I will say that when deciding to move to Austin, deciding what to do with Optimal Life Space was a decision that I contemplated constantly. One option was to continue OLS in Austin and the other was to find a new career. Ultimately, I decided that it was time to explore other career options and continue to organize as a continued passion and hobby.

More or less, you are now kind of caught up on where my mindset is when starting this journal/blog. You will hear about my journey to find a new career, moving into my new apartment and then general mundane (but weirdly hard) day to day adventures of getting used to a new city.

Thank you for joining me and let’s get started!
